Debise redeems himself and takes a valuable 5th place in Race 2 at Phillip Island

It was a brilliant Sunday for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team at Phillip Island, with Valentin Debise able to take a strong fifth place in Race 2. In a manche reduced to 9 laps, due to delays caused by work to restore ideal track conditions, the French rider was one of the absolute stars, picking up the first precious points of his 2024 season.

After finishing the Warm Up in 14th place, which was useful to check that the whole package was ok after yesterday's crash, Debise returned to the track for Race 2, starting in fourth place: in line with the new WorldSSP regulations, in fact, the first nine positions of the Race 2 grid are determined by the classification of the fastest laps of Race 1.

After a good start, the French rider maintained his starting position, but then dropped back to fifth place during the fourth lap, slightly losing contact with the leading group. Back in fourth place for one lap, Debise managed in the final to defend P5 until the chequered flag, obtaining a useful result for mood and standings.

At the end of the first round Valentin occupies 11th position in the championship standings, with 11 points. The Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team will be back on track from 22nd to 24th March at the Barcelona circuit, for the second round of the Supersport World Championship.

Valentin Debise
"It was a strange race, because of the delays and the track conditions. I thought I could fight for the victory at the beginning, but when the first ones changed pace I couldn't follow them. After yesterday's crash I tried to manage the situation, taking a very positive result anyway. This fifth place is a good starting point, also considering the fact that I don't like this track. I'm sure we will have fun in the next rounds".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
"We have always been in the top five, since Tuesday's test, so the balance is positive. Obviously the crash in Race 1 was a shame, but it can happen. The guys worked hard to fix the bike, and Valentin repaid them with a positive result. The goal was to return to the top five right away, and we achieved it, showing our potential. It's for sure not easy to fight against the Ducati and MV Agusta, so much so that I think the current balance between the bikes needs to be revised, but for the moment we enjoy the good things shown by Valentin and the team on the track."
