ÖNCÜ in the points in race one

Although still not fully race fit #canoncu fought hard through the opening 17-lap #worldssp race in Portugal, battling for every position and ending up in 14th place. His third row starting position helped his cause, as he only had eight riders ahead of him off the startline, but he  does not yet have enough stamina in his left arm to keep his fastest possible pace all race long.

Can is currently 14th in the main #worldssp championship standings, with Booth-Amos 15th overall.

There is one more race to be run in Portimao, at 12.30 local time in Portugal, not 15.15 like Saturday’s race.

Can Öncü, stated: “I started well but then had some difficulty with my left arm, as I’m not yet fully recovered from my injury. If I were fully fit, I could have fought for the win today but for now I’ll settle for improving, race-by-race. The end result, inside the points zone, is positive but for tomorrow I hope to improve my position. Thanks to my team for their amazing support.”

Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) was 15th and scored a single point, despite falling in the race at Turn Three and remounting. He was in seventh position at the time of his fall, which happened with seven laps to go.

Tom was crowned #worldssp Challenge champion at this round, as that championship-within-a-championship ends here and will not feature races at the final regular #worldssp round of the season at Jerez.

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) had a luckless day as he qualified 12th in Superpole, then had a technical issue and a subsequent crash in the Saturday race.

Luke Power (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) was a determined 18th, with Yuta Okaya (Prodina Kawasaki Racing) 25th. Leonardo Taccini (Vince64 by Puccetti #racing Kawasaki) retired from the race.
