Bitossi @ Salone del Mobile 2019

The historical legacy of Bitossi and new trends in contemporary #design come together
in the new collections by Quincoces-Dragò, Michele De Lucchi and Christoph Radl flanked by the re-edition of iconic pieces by Aldo Londi preserved in the Bitossi Historical Archive

Bitossi, the historic Florentine brand that for generations has continued the excellence of craftsmanship in ceramic manufacturing , returns to Milan #design Week with three new collections designed by Quincoces-Dragò, Michele De Lucchi and Christoph Radl.

As every year, Bitossi expresses the great capacity of the brand in the union between the important historical legacy and the interpretation of new trends, following a double editorial line, on the one hand collaborating with big names linked to tradition and on the other, introducing new excellent contributions interpreted by the best names in contemporary #design.

The new collections, developed under the careful direction of #ginevrabocinibitossi, the company’s artistic director, are taking shape starting from the historical archive, where the ceramics designed by the greatest names of the past are kept, primarily Aldo Londi and Ettore Sottsass.

The research for the Colonne collection, designed by Quincoces- Dragò, started here, an anthem to the great historical classics of the Bitossi archive, in particular to the shapes of the works of Ettore Sottsass and Nathalie du Pasquier. In fact, the designers have taken up the classic totem configuration adapting it in a contemporary key, combining the classic Bitossi language with the essential and harmonious style that characterises the duo’s designs. From this fusion, a series of displaced shapes was created, a composition of elements in balance to which the palette of neutral tones gives a graceful and elegant appearance.

The colours and shapes are the key elements in the Empty Cages collection by Michele De Lucchi, a preview of which will be unveiled: here the warm shades of the earth are replaced by shiny bright enamels, while the material is analysed from another perspective, in the contrast between full and empty. Thus the collection erases spatial limits that a closed container may give and opens up to endless use and function possibilities. The “rod” shape of the vases expresses the great expertise in craftsmanship and gives the classic shape a more contemporary look.

Finally, the collection designed by Christoph Radl, a longtime friend and partner of Bitossi. Radl has studied the stylistic evolution and the emotional language that Bitossi collections bring with them through the lens of artist and graphic designer that characterises it and has reproduced that combination of aesthetics and feeling in the subtle Revolver collection. The series, which includes 5 pieces of various sizes and shapes, is in two colours, orange or yellow ochre, warm tones that recall the terracotta bases of the items. The uniqueness of the collection lies in the intensity of the colour of the vases that emerges in all its vivacity.

The products enhancing the Bitossi catalogue unveiled on the occasion of the 2019 #salonedelmobile include some re-editions of the master Aldo Londi: two vases belonging to the Rimini Blu collection, a head-shaped Sweet box in white crystalline, the tabby cat with safari decoration and the small bolo depicting a pig in precious platinum enamel.

Finally, the vases from the Clay collections by Formafantasma, Seams designed by Benjamin Hubert and Tribe by Arik Levy are presented in new colours.
