CATCH ALDRIN

Edwin "Buzz'' Aldrin, 72, was leaving a news conference in Beverly Hills when he went into rocket-fuelled fury at doubting reporter Bart Sibrel. Sibrel, 37, a reporter from Nashville, Tennessee, was trying to conduct an "ambush interview" with Aldrin as he left the Luxe Hotel on plush Rodeo Drive. Aldrin was being interviewed by a Japanese television crew, and Sibrel said he asked the ex-astronaut to swear on a Bible that he walked on the moon in 1969. A scuffle broke out, and the Apollo 11 space man punched him in the face, he said, adding that he wasn't hurt. Aldrin, he said, "pretty much ran away." "The whole thing was over pretty quickly," said an eye-witness. "Aldrin came out the hotel and the reporter was obviously waiting for him. He just went over and started to ask questions and Aldrin just lashed out. He looked pretty mad. "Then he decided to take off down the street. The reporter just looked stunned that it had happened." Sibrel, who produced a video called "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Moon," doesn't believe the crew of Apollo 11 landed on the moon. He reported the punch to police and said he would seek an assault charge against Aldrin. The confrontation was videotaped. Sibrel, who describes himself as an investigative journalist, said it was the third time he had confronted Aldrin about his July 20, 1969 moon walk. Beverly Hills police spokesman Lieutenant Joe Lombardi confirmed that they were investigating the confrontation outside the hotel. Buzz Aldrin was, famously the second man to set foot on the moon. The honour of being the first astronaut to set foot on the Earth's only natural satellite went to Neil Armstrong who uttered to immortal words: "That's one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind."
