A third podium for DS Automobiles and Jean-Eric Vergne in Berlin!

Jean-Eric Vergne, driving his DS E-TENSE F23 single-seater, proved once more that he is one of the leading lights of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. By finishing third in the second race of the Berlin E-Prix, the Frenchman scored some important points in the drivers’ championship. This gives him plenty to work with ahead of the second part of the season!
The day after his impressive fightback in Race 1, the 2018 and 2019 champion showed his class once more at the Berlin-Tempelhof circuit. JEV qualified in an excellent fourth place on a wet track and then consistently fought for the lead throughout a strategic race, which was held entirely in dry conditions. Thanks to good energy management from the whole team, he finally got onto the third step of the podium at the end of the 40-lap race.
As for the championship , it was another excellent job: not only did Jean-Eric Vergne maintain his third place in the drivers’ classification, but he also reduced the gap to the series leader. After eight rounds of a total 16, the DS Automobiles driver is just 19 points behind!
Having been bundled off by a rival the day before, Stoffel Vandoorne was determined to score points on Sunday. And it was mission accomplished for the Belgian driver. Starting from ninth on the grid, the reigning world champion managed to make up a place and finish eighth.
This combined effort allowed DS PENSKE to retain fourth place in the teams’ championship before heading to Monaco. The most famous round on the calendar is due to take place on Saturday May 6.

“First of all, I’d like to thank all the mechanics and engineers who worked late into the night to fix Stoffel’s car after the incident in yesterday’s race. This was a great team effort that allowed us to obtain today’s result. It was an exciting race from start to finish, as is always the case in Formula E! JEV fought like a lion once more and was able to bring his DS E-TENSE FE23 home in third place. This was the third podium for him and DS Automobiles so far this year, which enables JEV to reduce the gap to the championship leader. Stoffel also drove a fantastic race, moving up from ninth to eighth place throughout an extremely closely-fought encounter. We conclude this long weekend of racing fully aware not just of the performance of our car, but also of the talents of our drivers and entire team, in a championship that gets more and more competitive.’

“On the whole, it was a positive weekend! Both in qualifying and the race, Sunday was a very good day for us. Having made the right choices and with an excellent car underneath us, we obtained what was probably the best result that was available today. I’m very pleased to have been on the podium here. Now we have to keep on working hard as we need more results like this!”
Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E champion :
“It was a complicated day. First of all, we had qualifying on a wet track and it wasn’t easy to make the right choices with the tyres. Nonetheless, we managed to get up to a reasonable ninth on the starting grid. Then we had a very strategic race that was run in dry conditions today, where nobody really wanted to lead. I had to fight a bit harder than I did yesterday to be competitive with the car. So I concentrated on avoiding any collisions and getting the car to the finish. In the end, I was still able to make up a place and finish eighth.”
